This closely accurate telling of the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale is beautifully shot, creepy music score, atmospheric, well acted and great production settings but does fall short with narrative pacing. Damn near the whole movie is one slow slow burn till like the 3rd act, which in my opinion is bad news. You’ve already lost and bored the audience for any major event to actually take form as a climax to really payoff. Story wise (like the original) it does focus on just the 3 main characters but the dark and eerie environment makes for a more sinister spin on it along with a fairly predictable passing of the torch intermingled. I really don’t have much else to say about this one, I wouldn’t watch it again and definitely belongs in the “stream or Redbox it” category.
